Why You Still Have Pain After Years of ‘Normal’ Tests

Why You Still Have Pain After Years of ‘Normal’ Tests

For Women Told It’s “Just Stress” or “Nothing Serious”

You’ve done the “right” things.
You’ve seen your primary care provider. Maybe a specialist.
You’ve had imaging, MRIs, X-rays, ultrasounds.
You’ve had bloodwork. You’ve tracked your symptoms.
You’ve been told:
“Everything looks normal.”

But your body still says otherwise.

  • You’re still in pain.

  • Still fatigued.

  • Still foggy, tight, or off balance.

And worst of all, you’ve started to wonder: Is this just in my head?

Let me stop you right there.

No, it’s not in your head.
Yes, your symptoms are real.
And normal test results don’t mean your body is fine.

The Hidden Truth: Not All Pain Has a Pathology

Most conventional medical tests are designed to detect disease, things like fractures, tumors, infections, organ damage.

But what if you’re experiencing functional breakdown, not disease?
What if your body
isn’t broken, but it can’t regulate?

In my practice, I work with women every day who’ve been told:

“You’re fine.”
“It’s just anxiety.”
“You should try to relax.”
“Maybe you’re just sensitive.”

And yet, these women are dealing with:

  • Persistent neck, jaw, or pelvic tension

  • Cycles that suddenly feel unpredictable

  • Sleep that never feels restorative

  • Mood shifts and emotional sensitivity

  • Brain fog that affects their work

  • Digestive changes they can’t explain

  • Pain that seems to move or linger

If this is you: you are not a mystery.
What you are likely experiencing is
nervous system dysregulation.

What Is Nervous System Dysregulation?

Your nervous system is your body’s command center.
It controls your muscles, digestion, hormones, immune response, and pain processing.
It also manages your
stress response, a built-in survival system designed to protect you.

When you’re in danger, your nervous system activates:

  • Your heart rate increases

  • Your muscles tense

  • Your digestion slows

  • Your cortisol spikes

  • Your senses sharpen

This is called sympathetic activation, or what we commonly call fight-or-flight.

It’s meant to be short-term.
But for many women today, this system is
stuck in ON mode, for years.

Why This Happens:

Chronic stress (physical, emotional, mental, or hormonal) rewires your body to prioritize survival over restoration.
Over time, this creates a pattern of dysregulation, where your body:

  • Holds onto tension

  • Doesn’t digest properly

  • Struggles to sleep deeply

  • Reacts to minor stressors like big threats

  • Feels inflamed, puffy, or achy

  • Feels “wired but tired”, like you’re running on fumes

In this state, the body isn’t diseased, but it isn’t functioning optimally either.
This is the in-between space where
many women live, and most healthcare systems ignore.

“But My Tests Came Back Normal…”

That doesn’t mean your body is functioning well.

Tests can show:

  • No disc herniation… but not the postural strain causing pain.

  • No thyroid disease… but not the stress-induced fatigue.

  • No GI disease… but not the nervous system stress slowing digestion.

  • No mental illness… but not the dysregulation that causes anxiety.

You’re not broken. You’re carrying a load your body hasn’t been able to release.

And that doesn’t show up in labs. But it shows up in your life.

Who Is Most Affected?

Women are disproportionately affected by invisible or misunderstood conditions like:

  • Chronic fatigue

  • IBS or unexplained digestive discomfort

  • Anxiety or high emotional reactivity

  • Sleep issues

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Chronic pain or tension

Why?

Because women, especially caregivers, mothers, sensitive feelers, or high-achievers are:

  • Socially conditioned to push through pain

  • Dismissed more often in medical settings

  • Rarely taught how the nervous system actually works

  • Carrying physical, emotional, and energetic labor with no real off-switch

This isn’t about weakness. It’s about chronic overload without release.

What’s the Solution?

True healing doesn’t come from just treating symptoms.
It comes from addressing the
system that governs all of it, your nervous system.

That’s why I don’t just focus on structural alignment.
I focus on
nervous system regulation.

How Chiropractic Supports the Nervous System

When most people think of chiropractic, they think of back pain.
But the deeper value, when done well, is its ability to influence how your
nervous system communicates.

In my office, we use:

  • Gentle, nervous system–informed techniques (no aggressive cracking)

  • Functional assessments of stress, tone, and neural tension

  • Tools to release stored physical tension that your body has adapted to

  • Support for vagus nerve tone, which helps regulate digestion, mood, inflammation, and rest

When your nervous system is supported, you don’t just “feel better.”
You function better.

What You Might Notice:

Once your body starts to feel safe again, you may notice:

  • Less chronic pain or tension

  • Improved sleep and recovery

  • More emotional steadiness

  • Better digestion

  • Hormonal shifts that feel smoother

  • A sense of coming back to yourself

It’s not always instant. But it is possible.
And the first step is understanding:
you’re not broken, you’re overwhelmed.

Final Thought: There Is More to the Story

If you’ve been dismissed…
If your test results are “fine” but you don’t feel fine…
If your symptoms are affecting your life but no one’s listening…

You deserve a different approach.
You deserve a practitioner who treats you like a whole person, not a puzzle to be solved.
